About The Position

This position supports the Hardware Integration group within Department E50. The selected individual will assist with the design, development, testing, installation, and troubleshooting of electronic equipment. Responsibilities include supporting hardware qualification of vendor‑supplied equipment, researching and resolving shipboard hardware issues, preparing technical documentation, and performing other tasks associated with Hardware Integration activities. The role involves regular communication with the Navy, NNL, and engineers/designers across multiple departments through email, phone calls, and in‑person meetings; therefore, strong written and oral communication skills are essential. Proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications and Adobe software is required. Experience with shock and vibration testing or qualification is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications and Adobe software is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with shock and vibration testing or qualification is preferred.
  • Strong technical foundation and a willingness to learn and apply knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Familiarity with computer networking concepts—particularly network-based architecture used in Industrial Control Systems.
  • Experience leading small engineering teams to complete projects or discrete tasks is desired.
  • Familiarity with requirements development is also desirable.
  • Technically savvy, proactive self-starter with a track record of managing fast‑moving engineering projects and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Ability to effectively multi‑task is essential.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English are required.
  • Experience with technical writing is preferred.
  • Experience with military environmental qualification requirements and testing.
  • Exposure to equipment obsolescence management.
