About The Position

This job is for a position in the Actuator Engineering team under the Propulsion and Reactor Engineering Planning Yard Department. Area of responsibility encompasses supporting design and procurement of a new electro-mechanical actuator development and support of current in-service electro-mechanical actuators. This role is for the lead electrical engineer on the team. The role will entail design, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electro-mechanical actuators and electrical sub-components within the actuator designs. The selected candidate will also be responsible for mentoring junior electrical engineers who will be supporting the actuator developments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Navy/DoD programs, that includes interfacing with NAVSEA and its prime contractors, equipment suppliers, and shipyard trades and engineering
  • Familiarity with electrical military standards
  • Familiarity with motor controllers and motor operated valves
  • Knowledge of printed circuit board and electric motor design
  • Knowledge of best practices for manufacturing electrical components
  • Knowledge of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) testing
  • Experience with testing equipment in a lab environment
  • Experience with project management
  • Ability to mentor 2 to 3 junior electrical engineers

Responsibilities

  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks.
  • Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
  • Supporting design and procurement of a new electro-mechanical actuator development.
  • Support of current in-service electro-mechanical actuators.
  • Design, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electro-mechanical actuators and electrical sub-components within the actuator designs.
  • Mentoring junior electrical engineers who will be supporting the actuator developments.
