About The Position

LG Energy Solution Michigan Inc. develops and manufactures large lithium-ion polymer batteries and packs for electric vehicle and energy storage applications. The Engineer, Controls position is part of a technical team responsible for engineering work in a highly automated manufacturing environment. The role supports continuous improvement; investigates and troubleshoots equipment, manufacturing, and facility problems; analyzes production results; implements and improves manufacturing methods and processes; and helps ensure high yield and productivity. The position interacts with internal and external customers and vendors to resolve urgent and complex problems by identifying and evaluating alternatives and supporting in-plant production as needed. Some on-call support is required. The Controls Engineer partners with the organization on Electrode process technology and will be trained and developed in Mitsubishi PLC programming. The role programs and integrates automation and controls systems from various manufacturers, including manufacturers in Italy, Japan, and Korea, and supports program design, simulation, testing, start-up, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

An associate degree or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automation, or a related field is required.
Zero to three years of industrial controls experience.
Exposure to controls and electrical systems design, automation, mechanical assemblies, and manufacturing assembly equipment.
Proactive, resourceful, and highly motivated, with good communication skills.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Promote workplace safety.

Nice To Haves

A Bachelor of Science or associate degree in electrical engineering is preferred.
Experience in a manufacturing or automotive engineering environment through an internship, co-op, entry-level role, or similar is highly preferred.
Exposure to or education in battery systems or processes is a plus.
Bilingual Korean/English skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

Program automation and controls systems from various manufacturers.
Create, monitor, and modify control logic for program design, simulation, testing, start-up, and troubleshooting.
Work with Mitsubishi Q Series PLCs.
Work with CC-Link and SSCNET III networking.
Work with motion control systems using servo motors and robots.
Integrate and implement systems such as barcode and RFID readers, robots, ultrasonic welding, vision systems, weigh scales, and gas sampling.
Investigate and troubleshoot equipment, manufacturing, and facility problems.
Analyze production results and implement or improve manufacturing methods and processes.
Support in-plant production and work with internal and external customers and vendors to resolve urgent and complex problems.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
