Perform engineering evaluation of product types including Material and Scaffolding Hoists, Elevated Platforms / Scaffolding Systems, and Physical Security Products (e.g., safes, vaults, ballistic materials). Determines project scope, develops investigation plans, and defines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input and available data. Projects may involve travel to client sites for testing. Initiates and maintains client communication to explain services, discuss technical issues, convey project costs, negotiate timelines, and resolve concerns. Provides technical assistance to clients regarding product inspection and follow-up services. Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files, manufacturer information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements. Travel up to 25-35% is required for testing and project support. Familiarity with applicable standards, company manuals, and technical literature is essential. Examines samples for compliance with UL requirements and communicates any non-compliance or scope changes to clients. Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets, instructing technicians, scheduling and reviewing work, and establishing completion dates. Manages administrative aspects of project management. May serve as Project Handler or Reviewer. Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and reports. Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages. Integrates continuous improvement concepts. Resolves engineering issues related to Variation Notices. Assists in the development of UL requirements, special test methods, and test equipment. Analyzes test program adequacy and sequence. May perform File Reviews and represent UL at industry functions.
