About The Position

TransCanada Turbines (TCT) is the sole authorized overhaul, repair and maintenance service provider for Siemens Energy and General Electric (GE) aeroderivative industrial gas turbines, serving an expanding international client base. Reporting to the Repair Development Program Manager, the Component Repair Engineer will provide a dedicated and comprehensive Engineering support function to TCT’s in-house Component Repair operations to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of all repair processes for the Siemens Energy and General Electric Aero Derivative gas turbine engines. This position requires extensive knowledge of Gas Turbine (Industrial/Aero) repair and reconditioning methodology in addition to a broad-based understanding of materials, mechanical and manufacturing techniques. A strong focus on quality is essential, with a requirement to positively embrace continual improvement via the application & development of TCT’s Management Systems.

Requirements

  • University degree in Mechanical, Materials or Manufacturing Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience is highly desirable.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) repair methodology & related processes (thermal spray, welding, heat treatment etc).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing and industrial specifications and standards.
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills are essential.
  • Working knowledge of continual improvement, process excellence and lean principles.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM programming is an asset.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • University degree or college diploma in Mechanical or Materials Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check
  • Successful completion of a post-offer medical and drug test

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CAD/CAM programming is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop repair schemes and reconditioning processes for the General Electric LM6000, LM2500 and Siemens SGT-A35 (RB211), SGT-A20 (Avon) product lines.
  • Lead the design, development, specification and commissioning of new processes, capabilities, and equipment to enhance TCT’s in-house component repair portfolio.
  • Design & develop tooling/fixtures/jigs in support of new or existing repair requirements.
  • Develop, author & approve component repair schemes.
  • Define First Article Inspection (FAI) requirements for new repairs and review results as part of the ‘release to production’ process.
  • Manage non-conforming material by review and disposition of defects/snags.
  • Proactively work towards minimizing cost of non-conformance through rigorous application of corrective and preventative action.
  • Assist with development and definition of shop routers/travelers for components requiring complex, multi-stage repairs.
  • Work closely with the Repair Development Program Manager to strategically define, optimize, and grow the in-house repair business.
  • Work closely with the Component Repair Technicians in the day-to-day operations to promote best practices and compliance to defined policies, processes, and work procedures.
  • Support the Metallurgical Laboratory function in the critical metallurgical evaluation and assessment of repair process test coupons.
  • Lead and positively embrace continual improvement, process improvement and cost reduction initiatives within the Component Repair department through the effective development and application and of lean principles.
  • Lead and develop technical and quality standards to develop a best-in-class product/service.
  • Provide technical support to the Component Repair Inspection entity to assist with critical evaluation of fit/form/function.
  • Continuously increase knowledge of TCT’s QHSE Management System policies/procedures and maintain a positive attitude towards the health and safety of myself and my coworkers.
  • Take ownership of HSE issues and demonstrate enthusiasm and support for the HSE Management System.
  • Other duties as directed by the Repair Development Program Manager.
