About The Position

The Engineer is primarily responsible for engineering support of the Reliability applications, processes, and the associated data and solution integrity. This includes supporting State Estimator functionality in the SPP and ERCOT regions as well as other reliability tools used in Transmission Operations. On the support aspect, the engineer will focus on monitoring and addressing data/model quality issues and on maintaining acceptable solution quality in support of Real-time system reliability. The engineer will also be in in charge of continuous capital and overhead work modeling in the State Estimator. The engineer will be part of 24x7 On-Call support staff rotation in order to provide non-stop support to the System Control Center; this means that during the time they are on-call they are expected to be available and respond.

Requirements

Engineer Associate SG6: Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET.
Engineer SG7: Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET along with two or more years of related engineering experience.
Engineer Senior SG8: 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET.
Engineer Senior SG8: 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET.
Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology can satisfy this degree requirement, if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Acceptable alternative for SG7 and SG8: Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
Electrical Engineering background strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred for Engineer Associate SG6.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred for Engineer Senior SG8.
Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards for Engineer Senior SG8.

Responsibilities

Troubleshooting and analyzing EMS powerflow solution iteration results and working with various other applications used in the daily reliability and operations of the electric grid.
Assume modeling responsibilities for an assigned area in accordance to AEP’s capital and O&M work plan.
Possesses intermediate level knowledge and performs varied assignments with proficiency in the application of theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analysis.
Demonstrates competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle assignments of moderate complexity.
