About The Position

This benchmark is intended to be used by companies that have generic classifications engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical. NNS Quality Assurance Engineering (Structural) is seeking an experienced Engineer to join us in supporting structural fabrication, fitting, welding, and non-destructive testing processes within NNS. This individual will be expected to perform/be proficient in the following: • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are established. • Investigates problems and develops disposition and corrective actions for recurring discrepancies. • Develops, modifies, applies, and maintains quality evaluation/control systems and protocols for procedures. • Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction. • Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements. • Performs deckplate surveillance to ensure processes conform to established standards. • Candidates shall have experience with Technical Publications and Navy Welding Specifications (i.e. TP 1688, TP 278, TP 248, MIL-STD-1689, CVN PPD, etc) • Candidates should have a questioning attitude, desire to learn and solve problems while collaborating with personnel at all levels and within different functional areas of the company. • Candidates may specialize in the areas of design, manufacturing, product evaluation and reliability, and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality. • Candidates may be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Experience with Technical Publications and Navy Welding Specifications (i.e. TP 1688, TP 278, TP 248, MIL-STD-1689, CVN PPD, etc)
A questioning attitude, desire to learn and solve problems while collaborating with personnel at all levels and within different functional areas of the company.
May specialize in the areas of design, manufacturing, product evaluation and reliability, and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.

Nice To Haves

Extensive experience with problem solving, root cause analysis, and process management (e.g., Process Mapping and FMEA)
Process improvement experience
Demonstrated knowledge of Quality processes (e.g. certification, testing) and ISO 9000 application to Military, DOE, shipbuilding
Heavy steel manufacturing experience (forming, bending, casting, fitting, welding, etc.)
Demonstrated knowledge of Agile, Knowledge Management, and/or Systems Methodologies
LEAN, Six Sigma, CI methodologies, and/or Certified Green or Black Belt
