About The Position

This Engine Shop Service Technician position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of diesel-powered or natural gas industrial engines or related components, following established procedures and guidelines. The technician can work independently or as a member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfy customer needs and achieves departmental goals. This is a mid-level position, generally requiring more than four years of experience and/or demonstrated job-relevant knowledge/skills. A Level III Technician has moderate knowledge of the field’s standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures, and performs a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks; is indirectly supervised and self-starting; often a team member on a large project.

Requirements

Four or more years of diesel or natural gas engines experience
Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams
Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)
Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane
The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
Ability to read, write, and understand information
Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
Experience is preferred
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred

Responsibilities

Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
Troubleshoots and diagnoses industrial diesel and natural gas engines
Disassembles and assembles of machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
Mentors and helps train other technicians
Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner
Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
Performs other duties as assigned
