About The Position

Clatsop Behavioral Healthcare (CBH) has an immediate opening for a full-time Engagement Specialist. The primary purpose of this position is to provide outreach, screenings, and schedule assessments for individuals seeking services for mental health, substance use disorders, and medication management. This position will work collaboratively with community partners and with in-house staff who send referrals. This individual also works with clinical staff to triage clients to ensure appropriate follow-up steps are developed, based on client presentation and acuity. The Engagement Specialist will be one of the first people most clients interact with at the Rapid Access Clinic; this may involve utilizing de-escalation strategies and conflict resolution techniques and knowing when to seek support from additional clinical staff.

Requirements

  • Current Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) certification through MHACBO or ability to obtain one within 30 days.
  • Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science field; or A combination of at least three years of relevant work, education, training, or experience.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn about Medicaid, Oregon Health Authority (OHA), and related State and Federal health care regulations to include Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) and statutes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with good judgment, discretion, and flexibility in work hours.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Full professional fluency in English.
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized.
  • Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the importance of maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Have and maintain an Oregon or Washington Driver’s license and meet the agency’s insurance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clients with information regarding services utilizing excellent customer service skills.
  • Help to manage client traffic flow at the clinic.
  • Keep an eye on the lobby to ensure client behavior remains sage and appropriate.
  • Engage in de-escalation strategies and ask for additional clinical assistance when in need.
  • Enter new admissions or reopens previous clients in the electronic medical records system.
  • Update data fields with the most recent information.
  • Manages caseload and closes clients from the screening program when appropriate.
  • Promptly notify supervisor if access to care is hindered and may limit a client’s ability to receive services within state guidelines.
  • Verify client OHP insurance coverage via MMIS.
  • Assist clients who desire help with applying electronically through the OHP ONE portal.
  • Coordinate daily activity and tasks with other Engagement Specialists.
  • Ensure client confidentiality is maintained and adheres to all ethical and professional standards.
  • Process incoming referrals from partner agencies and in-house staff.
  • Follow up on referrals to ensure they are scheduled or re-scheduled as needed.
  • Generate and forward status reports to referents to ensure continuity of care.
  • Track referrals utilizing electronic medical record (EMR) and various Excel spreadsheets.
  • Prepare and send referral and status reports.
  • Provide screenings to determine the appropriateness of consideration of an individual for participation in a specified program.
  • Go over treatment options with clients.
  • Screen individuals to determine the appropriateness of utilizing the Rapid Access Clinic. (RAC)
  • Determine which clinical professional the client is best suited to meet with for follow-up if indicated.
  • Coordinate with that professional/department to facilitate the next treatment service steps.
  • Conducts client assessments as needed.
  • All CBH Staff are Mandatory Abuse Reporters per the State of Oregon, as such all staff must be aware of and follow Mandatory Abuse Reporting Policies.
