About The Position

With us, you’ll be able to make an impact while you hone your skills and grow in your career. BAE Systems is looking for a Software Design Quality Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will serve as an assurance partner with engineering by influencing and providing technical guidance on design quality assurance. Through early engagement in the design and development phase, the successful candidate will influence the adoption of engineering best practices to identify and eliminate defects early in the product lifecycle. This person will ensure product designs meet customer, quality, and reliability requirements. This position will be responsible for supporting software designs and architectures for all products and may also provide some development support for software engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) in a relevant technical field of study
• Capable of obtaining a U.S. Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance
• Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with development teams and stakeholders and provide constructive feedback and mentorship to technical teams
• Ability to influence without authority
• Strong problem solving and risk management skills leveraged to ensure that the solutions meet the needs of the business and the warfighter
• Experience in software development life cycle including requirements capture and verification, design and development, and software integration and testing including understanding the purpose of tests and method to validate
• Design review experience
• Technical competency in software engineering: Knowledge of Software development tools, processes, and methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, Hybrid, SAFe Agile) and Software testing/approval/release processes
• Evaluate code in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, Ruby, Perl, JavaScript, etc.
• Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) in Engineering

Nice To Haves

• Experience in model-based engineering
• Proficient in requirement management tools
• Capable of troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment
• Familiarity with DO-178
• Knowledge of military aerospace testing standards
• Experience with Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) and/or Automotive SPICE (ASPICE)
• Experience with AS9145 APQP (SWFMEA)
• Familiarity with Quality Sciences (8D/RCCA, AS9100/ISO 9001 standards)
• Experience with version control software
• Experience with JIRA or equivalent workflow management

Responsibilities

• Contribute to software design quality assurance project bid estimates and tailor against contract requirements to develop and execute the software design quality assurance plan.
• Ensure internal and external product requirements are understood, validated, and properly traced to design, implementation, and testing and support qualification testing inclusive of system test set-up conformity, test monitoring, and review of qualification test reports and failure investigation reports.
• Ensure test strategies/solutions are properly designed to qualify products while ensuring factory acceptance tests meet the customer intent.
• Support software testing and verification including automated testing and validation procedures for software integration and modular architecture that focus on repeatability and reliability.
• Participate in and influence outcome of design reviews and provide constructive design related feedback on engineering documentation including engineering models, test plans, and other development artifacts.
• Ensure proper implementation and validation of design changes.
• Support Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities such as Software Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (SWFMEA) activities and Key Characteristic (KC) identification.
• Ensure software coding standards and best practices that focus on systematic and holistic approaches to software development are utilized.
• Provide input to technical risk and opportunity management.
• Ensure compliance to design processes , collect and analyze design quality metrics, and cross-pollinate software design best practices across programs to facilitate a culture of continuous improvement.
• Mentor team members in design quality assurance, processes, and regulatory requirements.
