About The Position

Our Space & Mission Systems sector is seeking engineering talent to join our Space Vehicle Simulator team. In this role, you will contribute to hardware–software integration efforts that support real space missions. The simulators we build function as early system prototypes, enabling critical program activities such as flight software development and test, risk‑reduction integration, ground system development, and mission operator training. This position is ideal for someone who is excited about aerospace and curious about how satellites are designed, built, and operated. You’ll use your software engineering skills to help develop real‑time simulations of BAE Systems SMS Space Vehicles and collaborate closely with a team of engineers in a fast‑paced, mission‑focused environment. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
  • Experience or coursework in software development using languages such as C/C++, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
  • Interest in real‑time operating systems (Linux, VxWorks) or real‑time application development.
  • Familiarity with or curiosity about control theory, hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing, or processor‑in‑the‑loop simulations.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle, version control tools, coding standards, and collaborative workflows.
  • The applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Nice To Haves

  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Exposure to model‑based simulations using MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience with automated code generation (Embedded Coder, Simulink Coder, MATLAB Coder) is a plus but not mandatory.
  • BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with demonstrated competency in software development.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement real‑time simulations of space vehicles.
  • Participate in the full software lifecycle: requirements, architecture, design, coding, testing, integration, and documentation.
  • Work within an Agile development environment using GitLab, coding standards, DevSecOps pipelines, and modern workflow practices.
  • Gain exposure to container technologies (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes), messaging protocols (Google Protobufs), shared‑memory and high‑performance data architectures (Infiniband, RDMA), and network concepts (VLANs, PTP).
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.
  • Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
