About The Position

We desire a high-energy, entry level technical professional to join our Materials and Engineering Development Labs team. The successful candidate will have excellent laboratory skills, demonstrated communication and presentation skills, be eager to expand their technical breadth and knowledge, have a demonstrated track record of both individual achievement and collaborative success. You will operate across multiple laboratories and production environments, balancing specific technical assignments with flexibility to support various teams where needed. Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills and presentation skills, including the ability to perform regular reading and writing to update technical documents and processes.
  • Solid mathematic skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: AA, wet chemistry, titration, FTIR, GCMS, XRF, DSC, TGA, TMA, LFA, HFM, microscopes, and SEM-EDS.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Demonstrated experience safely using chemicals common to chemical laboratories, including but not limited to reagents, solvents, acids, alkalis, and other chemicals common to a chemical laboratory.
  • Ability to successfully obtain security clearance as necessary to fulfill duties of the position.
  • A DoW Interim Secret clearance will be required to start work and required to be maintained to continue work.
  • The applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
  • As this position requires operating a company vehicle, an offer and subsequent employment are contingent upon possessing and maintaining a valid US driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record review.

  • Effective demonstrated creativity in failure investigations, material usage, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform, support, analyze, and document a variety of activities in the Chemical Laboratory, including sampling hardware, sample prep, analysis, interpretation of results, and reporting for AA, FTIR, GCMS, titrations, and method development; onboard new equipment/instrumentation, reducing to practice and validating processes; maintain/repair equipment.
  • Perform, support, analyze, method/process development, and document a variety of activities in the Physical Properties Laboratory, including sampling, sample prep, cross sectioning, metallurgical analysis, microscopic examination, and reporting for SEM-EDS, XRF, TGA, DSC, TMA, DMA, LFA, HFM, and mechanical properties; onboard new equipment/instrumentation, reducing to practice and validating processes; maintain/repair equipment.
  • Support, perform, develop, and document processes and production of tooling and deliverable hardware, including polymeric, resin, metal, and ceramic materials in the Additive Manufacturing Laboratory.
  • Perform, support, and document processes in vacuum, temperature/humidity, and autoclave environments for development and production support of aerospace products in the Process Development Laboratory; assist in support of production control, process improvement, and onboarding new equipment.
  • Support, analyze, and perform electrical tests to isolate defects in electrical components, evaluate materials and items used in Electrostatic Protection Areas in the Electrical Process Laboratory; support and assist in evaluating and setting up Electrical Protection Areas; utilize various tools common for the evaluation of electrical components and hand tools common to the work environment.
  • Assist with formal documentation of processes, procedures, material specifications, analytical results, and other needs within the Materials and Process Engineering organization; engage in regular reading and technical writing to review, update, and maintain legacy documents and operational processes. Documentation may be in the form of formal written or presentation format.
  • Test, analyze, and assist in the evaluation of new materials for use in aerospace applications, support failure analysis (physical, chemical, and electrical) utilizing various technologies, offer data-based root cause determination, and provide effective resolution to such investigations.
  • Program test equipment and data acquisition in various formats, develop and maintain Microsoft based databases with frequent development of macros.
  • Perform daily work in support of existing test procedures and development of new test protocols.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
