About The Position

The YNHHS Energy Program Manager provides system wide leadership for energy-sustainability management, utility performance, and sustainability across Yale New Haven Health System, consisting of 12 million square feet of hospital, research, and outpatient portfolio. This role develops and executes enterprise energy strategies (including procurement), optimizes utility consumption, manages energy data systems, and ensures compliance with regulatory and sustainability requirements. The YNHHS Energy Program Manager partners closely with Facilities Operations, Engineering, Capital Planning, and Sustainability teams to drive reliability, cost efficiency, and carbon reduction initiatives. This position plays a key role in advancing enterprise energy performance and supporting consistent execution across all sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, energy management, environmental science, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of energy management experience, preferably in healthcare, research, or a highly regulated environment.
  • Experience with central utility plants, HVAC optimization, and building automation systems.
  • Candidates without a Bachelor's degree must have 10+ years of relevant energy or utilities leadership experience and be actively enrolled in a degree program.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and energy analytics tool
  • Experience with CMMS, BAS/BMS, metering systems, and utility dashboards
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
  • Understanding of mechanical/electrical systems, codes, and commissioning

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the Enterprise Energy-Sustainability Management Strategy (Sourcing, Supply and Demand Management) for all hospitals, research facilities, and outpatient sites
  • Manage utility performance, including electricity, natural gas, steam, chilled water, and water consumption
  • Oversee enterprise energy data systems, metering, dashboards, and analytics
  • Lead energy-sustainability benchmarking using ASHE, ENERGY STAR, and internal performance databases
  • Identify and implement energy reduction projects, operational improvements, and optimization measures
  • Support carbon reduction planning, sustainability reporting, and emissions tracking
  • Partner with Engineering and Facilities Operations on plant optimization, load management, and reliability improvements
  • Integrate energy performance into capital planning, including FCI, lifecycle, and infrastructure renewal
  • Develop enterprise utility budgets, utility bill payments, forecasts, and variance analysis
  • Manage relationships with utilities, energy suppliers, and demand response partners
  • Lead enterprise commissioning and retro commissioning strategies for energy intensive systems
  • Support regulatory compliance for energy reporting, benchmarking mandates, and sustainability requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and 'Rules & Tools' to local site operations teams
  • Facilitate cross site training, knowledge sharing, and adoption of standard energy practices
  • Communicate energy performance, risks, and opportunities to system leadership
  • Work with Capital Planning and technical SME's to perform lifecycle cost analyses
