About The Position

The Energy Lead is responsible for driving implementation of P4I’s energy transition engagements in P4I, leading on and providing technical input into the scoping of activities, supporting coherence across portfolio activities and partners and providing a quality assurance function across the Program’s energy portfolio. Requirements

  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline related to the energy sector.
  • Experience providing advice on sector reform and infrastructure development, such as from a policy, regulatory, technology, commercial, market, or financing perspective.
  • Understanding of the energy transition context in Southeast Asia, with experience of technical engagement with a range of actors (e.g. policy-makers, regulator, utilities). Strong understanding of the links between these perspectives and actors.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of an advisory program in shaping energy transition reforms, ideally in Southeast Asia.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive programming coherence through application of strategy.
  • Demonstrated capacity to exercise sound judgement and make timely decisions in situations involving risk, uncertainty, or competing priorities.
  • Strong capability to analyse complex problems and identify linkages prioritise to achieve program coherence impact.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas (verbally and in writing) clearly and succinctly, tailoring messages to different audiences to aid decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff by setting clear expectations, providing direction and support, managing performance, and building an inclusive team culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce Program results in a complex and dynamic environment, collaborating effectively across a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team, including with external peers (eg G2G and other partners).
  • Proven ability to take responsibility for outcomes – setting clear plans, meeting commitments, proactively managing and communicating risks and issues, and following through without close supervision.
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders to understand needs, manage expectations, and maintain alignment through timely, audience‑appropriate communication.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and respond to shifting priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideally, understanding of the Australian energy sector context, including Australia’s experience of the energy transition, and Australia’s regulatory and institutional structure.
