About The Position

This position has a home-based office in Southern / Central Illinois. It requires site work and the use of a personal vehicle with up to 75% travel. You will join a team dedicated to helping institutional stakeholders manage energy use by providing reports containing implementable projects that reduce energy use in various buildings. Some of the day-to-day activities you would be involved with might include but would not be limited to: Manage projects in a fast-paced consulting environment. Conduct energy assessments (ASHRAE level I and II), including identification of energy conservation measures. Engage with customers and service providers at their locations as part of the assessment process. Provide overall management, direction, and accountability on assigned projects to ensure progress and on-time, high-quality deliverables. Calculate energy savings for various system or equipment changes using existing calculation tools, original spreadsheets, and/or generally accepted methodologies. Interpret supply-side energy use/cost data collected from customer sources or directly through our client or the local utilities. Communicate assessment results with a diverse audience on their level in a way that facilitates understanding and buy-in. Contribute to peers through technical discussions and work review. Draft a final report to be delivered to the program stakeholders on time.

Requirements

  • General familiarity with, and passion for, energy and efficiency
  • Knowledge and familiarity with required management for completing multiple ASHRAE energy assessments simultaneously
  • Exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
  • Understanding appropriate codes and standards
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Project management and organizational skills, with the ability to adeptly juggle multiple projects, customers, deadlines, and demands
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to comfortably interact with internal and external customers and stakeholders and serve their needs
  • Understanding of and compliance with internal policies and procedures
  • Comfortable performing a variety of fieldwork and interacting with customers, staff, and vendors
  • Strong knowledge of energy-efficient technologies and energy efficiency best practices
  • Proactive, resourceful, and highly motivated to achieve project results
  • Ability to see issues from the customer’s perspective
  • Ability to teach or explain technical topics to audiences with different levels of technical understanding
  • Proficient with MS Office and an understanding of SharePoint features and reporting abilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of energy efficiency experience
  • Technical Knowledge of: Conducting energy assessments (ASHRAE level I and II)
  • Technical Knowledge of: Refrigeration and compressed air systems
  • Technical Knowledge of: Cooling/heating systems
  • Technical Knowledge of: Boilers and chillers
  • Technical Knowledge of: Working on-site with commercial and institutional customers
  • Technical Knowledge of: Being the on-site subject matter expert to program stakeholders as required
  • Technical Knowledge of: Writing high-quality final reports
  • Technical Knowledge of: Utilizing tools such as Microsoft Office
