About The Position

Cascade Energy is seeking an Energy Efficiency Technician (EET), with consideration for a Senior level. The EET performs facility tune-ups at industrial sites and supports refrigeration operator coaching and strategic energy management (SEM) cohorts. This role works closely with engineering and SEM staff to identify energy saving opportunities and guide customers toward implementation. The EET provides expertise in refrigeration system operation and is knowledgeable of other energy-using subsystems such as compressed air, pumps, fans, HVAC, lighting, and boilers. The position is full-time, non-exempt, and located in Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, or Portland, requiring proximity to a major hub airport or a Cascade office. The role involves approximately 70% domestic travel, often multi-day trips up to one week, with compensation for travel time. Cascade supports flexible working arrangements with a hybrid work model combining remote and in-office work.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relative work experience (10 years for Senior) in industrial environments.
  • Experience with low-voltage systems, industrial SCADA systems, and subsystem controls.
  • Active electrical license.
  • Highly proficient with industrial refrigeration.
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of typical industrial energy-using subsystems including compressed air, pumps, fans, HVAC, and lighting.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems.
  • Proficient in the use and calibration of mechanical and electrical measurement sensors.
  • Highly knowledgeable of electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Proficient with wiring and electrical hardware up to 480 V.
  • Familiarity with data logger troubleshooting and programming.
  • Mastery of the basic principles of energy efficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) or equivalent (strongly preferred).
  • 5+ years experience (10 years for Senior) as a refrigeration operator, refrigerated facility maintenance manager, or refrigeration service technician (strongly preferred).
  • Certified Refrigeration Energy Specialist (CRES) or equivalent (preferred).
  • Experience with steam and natural gas systems, including tuning burners, testing steam traps, and boiler efficiency testing is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience with process heat applications that are served by natural gas is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform energy efficiency tune-ups of industrial refrigeration systems in collaboration with industrial plant managers, engineers, technicians, and service providers.
  • Identify and recommend energy saving opportunities based on observations of equipment condition, maintenance practices, and control strategies for industrial refrigeration, compressed air, pumps, fans, HVAC, lighting, and boiler systems.
  • Build customer trust and guide them towards implementing recommended energy saving projects.
  • Provide on-site and remote support to industrial customers and contractors for the installation of industrial energy efficiency projects.
  • Maintain relationships with the Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association, representing Cascade Energy and staying informed on industry technologies and best practices.
  • Install data logging equipment, including power, current, and pressure transducers, and collect data from distributed and local control systems to verify equipment operations.
  • Deliver energy efficiency trainings at industrial sites.
  • Support Strategic Energy Management (SEM) cohorts by providing technical support in workshops and conducting site visits to identify and implement energy saving opportunities.
  • Facilitate workshops for refrigeration operator cohorts for Demand Side Management partners.
  • Complete high-level Microsoft Excel analysis and report writing for utility energy efficiency programs.
