About The Position

The Energy Efficiency Adviser will foster relationships with trade allies to maximize the number and size of their submitted projects, and develop projects directly with our client’s customers. This role involves representing TRC and the client at industry events, diligently cultivating and managing program leads using a CRM database, and overseeing projects submitted by customers/trade allies. The adviser will collaborate with an assigned Project Coordinator to gather necessary documentation for project approval and closure, and validate project workbooks for technical accuracy, making adjustments as needed based on scope changes or inspections. A key responsibility is to place outbound calls to customers to meet assigned energy saving targets and manage field time effectively with customer or Trade Ally visits. The role also includes developing and delivering program presentations to stimulate project activity, responding to customer inquiries, and providing energy efficiency advice and assistance to building owners, property managers, and facility engineers. The adviser will gain a comprehensive understanding of the program’s strategic direction and customer business activities, identify on-site energy efficiency opportunities, and discuss technical aspects of energy-consuming equipment like lighting, HVAC, and hot water systems. Data entry into spreadsheets and databases for determining energy savings and managing projects, potentially collaborating with Energy Engineers, is also required. Maintaining a professional appearance, building quick rapport with customers and trade allies, initiating conversations about energy usage, and providing written summary reports are essential. The role requires a team player attitude, willingness to collaborate on continuous improvement, and solid computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Travel up to 50% with occasional overnights is expected, and site visits may involve physical activity and exposure to varying environmental conditions. A valid driver’s license, clean driving record, reliable transportation, and residency in New Jersey are mandatory.

Field work may require exposure to in indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. This may or may not include extreme temperatures.
Follow safety and health policies for site visits.
Will travel within Client’s territory and must have reliable transportation.
Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Responsible for maintenance and fees of the transportation vehicle.
B.A. or B.S. in Business or Technical field or 5+ years’ experience in sales, account management, or similar
1+ years’ experience working with energy efficiency or energy efficient products with a utility, government, non-profit or public agency
Candidate must be New Jersey Resident and reside in New Jersey.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or equivalent
Certified Energy Auditor (Commercial) designation
Experience in Commercial or Industrial energy efficiency, technical sales, B2B, or construction industry sales

Responsibilities

Foster relationships with trade allies to maximize the number and size of their submitted projects.
Develop projects directly with our client’s customers.
Field industry events on behalf of TRC and client.
Learn and utilize CRM database for project and lead management.
Cultivate, track and manage program leads diligently.
Oversee projects submitted by customers/trade allies.
Work with an assigned Project Coordinator to help gather required information/documentation to approve/close out a project.
Validate and review project workbooks to ensure technical information is entered appropriately in addition to making adjustments based on scope changes or inspections.
Place outbound calls to new and existing customers to meet assigned energy saving targets.
Manage field time effectively with customer or Trade Ally visits.
Develop and deliver program presentations to spur project activity.
Respond to customer inquiries and concerns by phone, electronically or in person to move projects towards completion.
Work with building owners, property managers and / or facility engineers to provide energy efficiency advice and assistance in participating in energy efficiency programs.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the program’s strategic direction regarding energy efficiency and the business activities of its customers.
Identify and provide documentation of on-site opportunities for energy efficiency and provide follow-up to customers as required.
Discuss technical elements of energy consuming equipment—i.e., lighting, HVAC, hot water systems.
Enter data into spreadsheets and databases to determine energy savings and to manage current projects which may also include collaborating with Energy Engineers as required.
Maintain professional appearance appropriate for a representative of our organization and the utility.
Build quick rapport with customers or trade allies.
Quickly initiate conversations with customers on site regarding energy usage at the facility.
When required, provide written summary reports directly to the customer, and summary reports to the client/Program Manager.
Be able to work in a team atmosphere, and willing to collaborate on continuous improvement of operations year after year.
