About The Position

EnergyHub is seeking an Energy Data Scientist to join its Analytics Engineering team. This role is crucial for enabling a carbon-free, distributed energy future by improving the models used for evaluating control algorithms. The Energy Data Scientist will work closely with other data scientists and analytics engineers, collaborating with the Data Science and Power Systems Intelligence team to understand algorithms and optimizations for enhanced performance evaluation and forecasting. The position also involves contributing to data management software systems, playing a core role in the foundation of a future with carbon-free and distributed energy.

Requirements

  • Passionate about enabling a carbon-free, distributed energy future.
  • Enjoy finding valuable insights in large, complex datasets.
  • Experience with Python and the scientific stack (pandas, numpy, scipy).
  • Proficiency in SQL and understanding of good data modeling practices (basic ETL/ELT).
  • Practical comprehension of basic machine learning algorithms and familiarity with popular software packages such as Sklearn and Tensorflow.
  • Ability to explain results from large-scale data analyses to diverse audiences in a clear, interesting, and actionable way.
  • Ability to have fun while working on hard problems with smart people.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the measurement and verification (M&V) of control and optimization of distributed energy resources.
  • Experience in using Snowflake, dbt and understanding analytics engineering development practices.
  • Experience with at least one BI tool such as Sigma, Tableau, Looker, etc).
  • Experience with scaling data science products in the cloud (e.g., Databricks, AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Strong background in mathematics and statistics.
  • Power systems expertise, including three-phase distribution network modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the development of M&V methodologies and data science models for more accurate and transparent evaluation of advanced grid services from fleets of distributed energy resources.
  • Write production-level code, prototype new data products, and apply machine learning algorithms to energy IoT data.
  • Translate data from one of the largest distributed energy datasets in the electricity industry into actionable insights for electric utilities and other energy industry stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders inside and outside of EnergyHub including Data Engineering, Client Success, Marketing, Sales, Product, and Market Development teams.
