About The Position

The Energy Assistance Coordinator welcomes clients and provides information and instructions to individuals regarding energy assistance. This role involves answering telephones, communicating calmly and confidently, and de-escalating situations with clientele. The coordinator schedules office appointments, interviews applicants to gather necessary personal and financial data, and collects required supporting documentation. They are responsible for completing all required forms, maintaining accurate and confidential client files, and calculating the level of assistance for qualified applicants using a computerized formula. Applicants are notified of program eligibility in person or by mail. The role also includes performing follow-up with participants, distributing award and/or pledge letters, and providing referrals to other social and community service organizations. Additionally, the coordinator will conduct outreach to inform individuals, community groups, and agencies about program services and assist with data entry as needed. This is a temporary position with a tentative timeline from October 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience performing job functions
  • One (1) or more years of clerical or public contact work experience
  • Ability to communicate calmly and confidently using active listening skills
  • Ability to stay alert and diffuse clientele in escalated situations
  • Ability to clearly communicate with all clients in order to gather necessary information for better assisting clientele
  • Ability to keep client files organized and confidential
  • Ability to use sound judgement, make informed and complex decisions under pressure
  • Ability to display working knowledge of standard computer applications including MS Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Ability to type 30wpm
