About The Position

St. Francis Xavier University is seeking an Energy & Sustainability Manager to join the Facilities Management team. Reporting to the Director, Facilities Management, the successful candidate will lead the strategic development and implementation of the university’s energy and sustainability initiatives. This role focuses on energy performance, data analytics, and continuous improvement of building operations to support institutional sustainability goals. The Energy & Sustainability Manager provides leadership in campus energy management and sustainability programming. The position supports operational efficiency, capital planning, and performance monitoring across university facilities.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (P.Eng. considered an asset); or diploma in environmental, energy, or building systems technology (CET considered an asset)
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or willingness to obtain
  • 5–10 years’ experience in energy or sustainability management, preferably in a multi-building environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of energy measurement, utilities, and tariff structures
  • Advanced MS Excel skills; familiarity with energy information systems preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HVAC systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS), metering, and energy benchmarking considered an asset
  • Knowledge of GHG reporting and energy management systems (e.g., ISO 50001) is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability in fostering a climate of inclusion and cultural safety is a strong asset
  • Lived experience of historically excluded groups

Responsibilities

  • Developing and managing energy and sustainability programs
  • Monitoring and analyzing energy performance and reporting outcomes
  • Identifying and implementing energy efficiency initiatives and retrofit projects
  • Supporting continuous improvement of building systems and operations
  • Tracking sustainability metrics and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Conduct and coordinate energy audits and building performance assessments
  • Lead energy retrofit and re-commissioning initiatives, including consultant and contractor oversight
  • Support capital planning through energy analysis and financial modelling
  • Implement operational energy efficiency measures and measurement & verification practices
  • Monitor building performance data and support continuous commissioning
  • Maintain energy metering and analytics systems
  • Deliver training, awareness, and engagement initiatives across campus
  • Identify and pursue government funding opportunities supporting energy strategies

  • Salary Range: MPE Band F, $80,418-98,241
