About The Position

The Brattle Group is seeking Energy Analysts (EAs) to join their Washington DC office. The Brattle Group is a global economic and litigation consulting firm that provides expert analysis and testimony for legal disputes, regulatory proceedings, and business strategy. They utilize economic, financial, and analytical expertise to solve complex problems and offer strategic insights. The role involves bridging economic theory with real-world application to aid clients in decision-making across various sectors, including corporate finance, energy, competition, and regulatory economics. Economic consulting itself is defined as the application of economic and finance theories, quantitative methods, and data analysis to address legal and business challenges, with consultants providing expert testimony and strategic advice on high-stakes projects influencing major global decisions.

Requirements

• An undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., economics, computer science, data science, and mathematics), with strong academic performance.
• GPA of 3.7 or higher (based on a 4.0 scale).
• Great teamwork and leadership skills.
• Intellectual curiosity and creativity.
• A high degree of ownership and commitment.
• Completed or will complete a course with climate or energy focus.
• Completed a significant, self-defined project using quantitative analysis and economic principles.
• Ability to apply quantitative analysis and economic thinking to real-world cases during the interview process.

Responsibilities

• Build models and create innovative data-based solutions for clients using programming languages such as Excel, R, Python, GAMS, Stata, and VBA (e.g., conducting data and statistical analysis, econometric analysis, building interactive dashboards).
• Conduct comprehensive energy analysis, including market analysis, literature reviews, document examination, and writing memos to provide insights and support expert reports.
• Contribute to client deliverables, including presentations and memos, with figures, quantitative results, and novel findings.
• Assist in preparing expert reports and presentations, helping experts present complex economic and financial concepts clearly in legal and regulatory contexts.
• Work closely with colleagues at all levels, contributing to the development of robust and innovative solutions for clients.
• Build novel financial, economic, statistical, and operational models using a variety of tools.
• Analyze electricity, natural gas, and other energy markets and apply this information in financial, legal, and policy settings.
• Develop, maintain, and run power system models, including capacity expansion and security-constrained production cost models.
• Provide in-depth regulatory and policy research and summarize insights through literature review.
• Communicate research and analyses to project team members and clients.
• Think critically about analysis results and discuss findings with an internal team.
• Coauthor publications and be part of presentation teams.
