About The Position

As an Endoscopy Technician in the GI Procedures department at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital, you will be part of a world-class academic healthcare system. Your primary responsibility is to assist in the collection of data for an objective assessment to identify patient needs, problems, concerns, or human responses. This is a 100% onsite position, requiring you to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. You will assist the M.D. and RN (if applicable) during pre-op, intra-procedure, and post-op phases. Key duties include assisting with procedure set-up, documenting scope usage, pre-cleaning, and transporting equipment. The role also extends to inpatient settings, where you will assist with bedside procedure set-up, appropriate scope usage documentation, pre-cleaning, and transport.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
• One of the following: Surgical Technician, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or experience in an endoscopy procedural area
• Ability to read and write at 9th grade level, perform simple mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, perform variety of tasks without direct supervision and perform duties requiring continuous physical effort.

Nice To Haves

• Certification from a recognized professional organization (e.g. SGNA, IAHCSMM, CBSPD, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Performs any or all duties involving direct patient care as assigned by the nursing staff, manager and/or Medical Director of the procedural area within guidelines provided by UCH policies and Procedures.
• Ensure inventories of endoscopic equipment and supplies.
• Perform safety checks to verify proper equipment functioning.
• Prepare suites, rooms, or bedside set-ups according to endoscopic procedure requirements.
• Troubleshoot endoscopic equipment issues or escalate to appropriate party.
• Position or transport patients in accordance with instructions from nursing and medical personnel.
• Assist physicians or registered nurses in the conduct of endoscopic procedures.
• Performs other duties assigned.
