About The Position

UC Health is Hiring a full-time Endoscopy Tech for the Endoscopy department for the first shift at UC Medical Center. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of patient care experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in endoscopy or surgical services
  • Knowledge of Olympus scope processing

Responsibilities

  • Engages in population appropriate communication.

  • Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.

  • Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.

  • Transports patients to procedure room.
  • Assures patient is comfortable and oriented to surroundings, call light.
  • Performs aspects of clinical care as assigned and delegated by RN.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of reasons for tests, procedures, treatment and potential signs and symptoms of complications.
  • Performs clinical procedures only under the supervision of an RN who has assessed the patient and determined appropriate tasks for delegation.
  • Performs skills only after demonstrating competency as documented on the Clinical Performance Record (CPR).
  • Takes VS (temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure), obtains pulse oximetry (where applicable) and reports reading to RN.
  • Makes observations as instructed by clincal for adverse reactions to blood transfusions.
  • Ensures appropriate processing of specimen; transport, computer order entry and documentation in specimen logbook time taken to Pathology, Cytogoy or Lab

  • Acts rapidly and calmly during emergencies, initiates CPR and provides the necessary items required by clinician.
  • Utilizes time management skills effectively in all aspects of patient care: Provides effective care by prioritizing patient needs.
  • Runs errands as directed and picks up daily Central Service supplies.
  • Picks up patient trays as ordered by physician.
  • Assists physicians with technical portion of gastroenterology and pulmonary procedures (i.e., gathering of specimens, wire placement, PEG placement, dilation, etc.)
  • Assist with phone calls; scheduling, filing.
  • Pre-calls, ordering supplies.
  • Assisting in all areas of the department to assist in the flow.
  • In-services and unit meetings are attended.
  • Maintains the integrity of unit equipment (clean, repairs, QA).
  • Complete unit assignments as requested.
  • Cleans, disinfects, dries and maintains Endoscopy equipment.
  • Responsible for checking for scope damage by performing leak test.
  • Notifies charge nurse of instruments needing repair and takes to OR to be sent out.
  • Responsible for stocking and cleaning work area.
  • Maintains scheduled filter changes and disinfects scope washers as directed by manufacturer.
  • Checks Cidex effectiveness daily at beginning of shift
  • Ensures beds are in appropriate position and locked at all times.
  • Ensures that side rails remain in up position and locked at all times.
  • Ensures that needed articles, including call light are within reach.
  • Maintains safety while assisting patients in moving, sitting or ambulating.
  • Discharges outpatients.
  • Ensures that paitents are secured appropriately when transported by wheelchair/stretcher.
  • Applies safety devices and documents according to hospital policy.
  • Inventory of procedures room supplies
  • Handles oxygen tanks safely.
  • Stock rooms with linens and medical supplies.
  • Uses proper body mechanics.
  • Keeps unit clean and orderly.
  • Uses good hand washing and aseptic technique, utilizes universal precautions; adheres to isolation procedures, keeps unti clean, removes equipment from room when no longer in use.
  • Safety hazards are corrected and/or reported to the appropriate person; location of all fire alarms, extinguisher and hoses are known.
  • Returns to unit promptly in case of patient emergency, fire or disaster and reports to person in charge.
  • Assures necessary equipment is available; picks up and delivers equipment and facilitate proper room turnover.
  • Removes soiled linens, disinfects stretchers and equipment and replaces linens on stretchers.
  • Clean and package equipment to be sterilized and deliver to Central Supply.
