About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for the care and maintenance of endoscopy equipment, providing assistance in the procedure room to physicians, patients, and nursing staff, and preparing and cleaning rooms. This role involves supporting diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available, and maintaining a sterile and safe environment. The technician will also be involved in patient care pre and post-procedure under the supervision of a registered nurse, including taking vital signs and assisting with patient discharge. Adherence to infection control principles and universal precautions is paramount. The position requires effective communication, the ability to work independently, and flexibility with scheduling.

Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older.
High School graduate or equivalent G.E.D.
Current BLS certification.
Effective understanding and use of the English language.
Must be flexible with working schedule and have the ability to work occasional overtime.
Willingness to learn new tasks, be cross-trained in the center, and be flexible with workload, including assisting co-workers.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate with diversified levels of patients, staff members, and management.
Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including telephone communication, office systems, and record keeping.
Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives.
Ability to organize work material and/or charts to ensure accuracy of patient records.
Ability to handle and resolve problems.
Neat appearance and a professional demeanor.
Works with chemicals including, but not limited to, chlorine bleach, glutaraldehyde and formalin.
Physical demand requirement meets those defined as HEAVY work, exerting 50 – 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 – 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 1 – 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Responsible for maintaining current BCLS.
Maintain annual fire safety/general safety training.
Maintain annual OSHA-TB.
Maintain annual OSHA Blood-borne Pathogen.
Maintain annual PPD skin test or TB Screening Form.
Must complete annual performance evaluation and return in a timely manner, including competency skills checklist.
Attends and participates in at least 75% of staff meetings and reviews minutes of those meetings not attended.

Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant or Surgical Technician Program preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepare procedure rooms and assist with diagnostic/therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
Assist the physician, nurses, and CRNA with endoscope procedures.
Set up each procedure room prior to procedure, ensuring appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies are available.
Prepare specimens for the lab and document accordingly.
Properly chart interventions completed during procedures using electronic charting.
Responsible for the care and maintenance of equipment, testing equipment prior to procedure to ensure it is working properly, and reporting equipment malfunction to the nurse manager.
Properly clean and disinfect/sterilize accessories used during procedures.
Responsible for the care, maintenance, and disinfection of the endoscopic washer.
Prepare appropriate paperwork and endoscopes for repair.
Maintain equipment records.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels and assist with ordering.
Clean and restock rooms and carts.
Provide patient care pre and post-procedure under the supervision of the registered nurse, which may include gathering initial patient information, assisting with dressing, taking vital signs, and monitoring patients post-procedure.
Adhere to infection control principles and apply universal precautions.
Keep the nurse manager updated at all times.
Order supplies as needed.
Utilize electronic charting throughout the patient visit.
Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
