About The Position

Responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of operating instrumentations and equipment. Adheres to all departmental policies and procedures to ensure that instrumentation is available for endoscopic and pulmonary procedures in a timely manner. Strict adherence to high-level disinfection procedures per guidelines provided by Infection Prevention Department practitioner. Competent to work in general endoscopy procedure rooms assisting and handling scopes with the supervision of an endoscopy nurse, a physician and anesthesia staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six months of related experience preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Complete high-level disinfection (HLD) training with first three months of employment with annual renewal.
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as Endora tracking system, Medivators, Dri-scope, Veriscan, Scope Buddy, and other devices related to scope decontamination and disinfecting of other instruments.
  • Knowledge of instrument IFU,s, care/disposal of solutions in use in the decontamination room, and scope/scope cabinet cleaning schedules.
  • Ability to show competency in scope handling during general GI procedures such as EGD, colonoscopy, use of snares and biopsy forceps, dilation procedures, and assistance in doing travel GI cases in critical care and OR

Responsibilities

  • Operates all department equipment in designated decontamination areas and promptly reports issues to the Assistant Nurse Manager of Endoscopy.
  • Performs manual and/or automated decontamination of scopes and other instruments.
  • Inspects scopes and instruments to ensure cleanliness and proper functionality.
  • Assembles scopes and instruments into proper carrying containers according to procedure room needs.
  • Packages special instruments according to manufacturer's instructions.
  • Performs required decontamination and verifies adequacy of the process.
  • Maintains documentation of decontamination processes utilizing Endora system.
  • Stores scopes and other instruments in identified location.
  • Collects instruments for special sterilization, delivers to the specific areas for sterilization, and picks up instruments post sterilization process for storage or immediate use in the Endoscopy unit.
  • Participates in the department's monthly meetings and educational training opportunities.
  • Assists other team members as needed, such as delivery of specimen to the pathology laboratory area and other errands assisting workflow and patient throughput.
  • Protects self, coworkers, and facility by following policies and procedures concerning the prevention of spreading blood borne and or airborne contaminates/diseases.
  • Exhibits competency in assisting general endoscopic procedures within the Endoscopy unit, at the patient's bedside in critical care, and in OR such as EGD, colonoscopy, specimen collection, snares, biopsy forceps, and dilations.
