About The Position

This role is a crucial member of the healthcare team responsible for the infection prevention of endoscope preparation, which is critical for patient safety. By reprocessing endoscopes, the technician must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to preclean, leak test, decontaminate, inspect, disinfect, transport, and store endoscopes in accordance with industry standards, guidelines, regulations, and manufacturer's instructions for use. The technician also demonstrates responsibilities by providing assistance to nurses and physicians during procedures, including all types of endoscopic procedures and emergencies, utilizing endoscopes, accessories, and therapeutic equipment. They may assist in obtaining biopsy specimens and polyps under the direct supervision of an RN. This role also involves maintaining professional working relationships, promoting positive public relations, seeking guidance, being receptive to feedback, and maintaining accurate records and logs related to scope reprocessing and QA monitoring. Specimen handling is required for technicians not solely focused on reprocessing. The technician must observe and maintain isolation and standard precautions, follow hand washing guidelines, use two patient identifiers, and provide safety and comfort measures for patients. They will appropriately label and bag specimens for transport and handle dirty equipment to prevent cross-contamination. Maintaining a neat and safe environment, including hallways and storage closets, is also part of the role. The technician will initiate and maintain a friendly, professional, courteous, and respectful rapport with patients, responding to their needs in a timely manner and following HIPAA guidelines. They will respect patient privacy and dignity and participate in initiatives to improve patient satisfaction scores. Enhancing unit attitude and teamwork to facilitate a positive work environment is expected, working as a team member by accepting assignments and demonstrating flexibility. The technician will help facilitate the normal working of the unit during emergencies and seek approval before reprioritizing complex events. Professional practice responsibilities include maintaining skill levels by completing yearly competencies and mandatory training, demonstrating and pursuing personal and professional growth, attending in-services/seminars, and attending staff meetings. They will follow HR policies, participate in the orientation of new employees, and adhere to PRIDE values. The technician will follow the daily schedule to ensure the proper endoscope is available, set up the procedure room, test the scope, troubleshoot equipment, and report malfunctioning equipment. Efficiently turning over the room between cases, including proper pre-cleaning of scopes, is required. Stocking rooms with necessary supplies and preparing them for the following day are also duties. This is a full-time position with day shifts.

Requirements
