About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician role at Baystate Health involves providing technical and clinical support for diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterology procedures. Working within the Endoscopy Department at the Chestnut Surgery Center, you will collaborate with registered nurses and physicians to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Your responsibilities will include preparing procedure rooms, maintaining equipment and supplies, processing specimens, and facilitating efficient room turnover in a dynamic clinical setting. You will support patients throughout their endoscopy experience and assist medical staff during procedures.

Requirements

  • No prior work experience required.
  • Must demonstrate competency in reading and mathematics as verified by an aptitude test.
  • Must successfully complete the department orientation program.
  • Must be capable of following detailed instructions, prioritizing multiple activities, and demonstrating effective interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively in stressful and emergency situations.
  • Moderate physical strength and effort required.
  • Good hand-to-eye coordination and mechanical ability required.
  • Intact or corrected vision and hearing required.
  • Ability to maintain continuous mental and visual attention.
  • GED or HiSET (Required)
  • Basic Life Support - American Heart Association

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Prior Endoscopy Technician experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of scope-of-practice considerations related to gastroenterology preferred.
  • Commitment to continuing education and maintaining competency in required clinical and technical skills.
  • Understanding of ethical, professional, and legal standards of patient care and professional conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the RN and/or physician with delegated patient care tasks, including collecting patient data and vital signs.
  • Assist physicians and RNs with diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterology procedures and implementation of established plans of care.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including flexible sigmoidoscopy and administration of enemas as directed.
  • Process specimens according to established procedure guidelines and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Maintain procedure room supplies and equipment, including ordering, stocking, cleaning, and disinfection.
  • Perform endoscope, room, and equipment cleaning and disinfection according to established standards.
  • Provide efficient endoscopy room turnover and technical support to maintain department workflow.
  • Respond to emergency situations as directed by the RN and/or physician while maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff.
