About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for supporting the clinical care of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures under the direction of a registered nurse. This role involves preparation, operation, and maintenance of endoscopic equipment and supplies, assisting the physician and GI RN before, during, and after procedures, and maintaining a safe and organized procedural environment. The technician demonstrates competency in delegated clinical tasks, contributes to quality patient care through attention to detail and infection control, and supports departmental efficiency and continuity.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • BLS required.
  • Knowledge of endoscopy procedures, equipment handling, and infection prevention.
  • Ability to follow direction, think critically, and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to stand, move, lift, and perform essential functions throughout the shift.
  • Demonstrates initiative, reliability, and commitment to excellence in patient care.
  • Comfortable working under pressure in a dynamic clinical environment.
  • Maintains confidentiality and professionalism in all patient and staff interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • CMA, CNA, CST, or LPN credentials preferred.
  • Completion of or willingness to complete SGNA GI Associate's or Advanced GI Technical Specialist (AGTS) program is encouraged.
  • Relevant certification (CNA, CMA, CST, LPN) preferred.
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience in gastroenterology or a procedural healthcare setting preferred.
  • Prior endoscopy experience highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with endoscopic procedures including setup, support, and post-procedure care under RN direction.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in identifying and communicating patient needs or safety concerns to the RN.
  • Maintain and reprocess endoscopic equipment in accordance with infection control standards and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Stock and manage procedural supplies; assist with inventory and ordering.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional team to support high-quality and continuous care.
  • Support the on-call rotation, when applicable to the facility’s operational needs.
  • Support orientation of new staff and contribute to team learning and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain procedural rooms and promote a safe and regulatory-compliant environment.
  • Participate in ongoing education and demonstrate knowledge of current practice issues in gastroenterology.
  • Communicate effectively and ethically with patients, physicians, and staff.
