About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician plays a critical role in supporting gastroenterologists and other medical professionals by preparing and maintaining endoscopic equipment and assisting during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This position ensures that all endoscopic instruments are properly sterilized, assembled, and functioning to facilitate safe and efficient patient care. The technician is responsible for patient preparation, including explaining procedures and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the process. They collaborate closely with the healthcare team to monitor patient status during procedures and respond promptly to any needs or emergencies. Ultimately, the Endoscopy Technician contributes to the delivery of high-quality care by maintaining a sterile environment and supporting the clinical team in achieving accurate diagnostic outcomes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Endoscopy Technician training program or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy related to endoscopic procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as an Endoscopy Technician (e.g., Certified Endoscopy Technician - CET) is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience working in a hospital or outpatient endoscopy unit.
  • Advanced certifications such as Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN) or similar.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Strong communication skills for patient interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and sterilize endoscopic equipment and instruments according to established protocols.
  • Assist physicians during endoscopic procedures by handling instruments and monitoring patient status.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety by preparing patients for procedures and providing necessary support.
  • Maintain accurate records of procedures, equipment maintenance, and sterilization logs.
  • Collaborate with nursing and medical staff to coordinate patient care and procedural workflow.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot equipment functionality to prevent procedural delays.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety standards to maintain a sterile environment.
