About The Position

The Endoscopy Technician supports and assists the GI physician under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role is crucial in assisting the practitioner with a range of endoscopic procedures, from simple to advanced therapeutic interventions. Key responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining scopes and equipment, ensuring proper storage and handling, ordering supplies, managing procedural room turnover with strict adherence to infection prevention practices, and maintaining adequate inventory levels. The technician must possess technical skills for troubleshooting equipment issues, have a basic understanding of GI anatomy and medical terminology, and demonstrate proficiency in scope management and bedside reprocessing. The role also contributes to maintaining a safe environment, promoting operational efficiency, and upholding departmental standards of care. Additionally, the incumbent may perform clinic duties as a Medical Assistant Registered when not actively assisting in procedures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Surgical Technology, Anesthesia Technologist, Certified Nurse Assistant or Medical Assistant program required.
  • Current Surgical Technologist Certification, Nursing Assistant Certification or Certified Medical Assistant licensure in the state of Washington required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90-days of hire.
  • Sterile processing, scope processing and maintenance, patient care, time management.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree preferred.
  • Endoscopy Technician Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physician with procedure, including preparing the room and patient, anticipating needs, maintaining scopes, and positioning patients as directed.
  • Explain procedures to patients, provide instructions for cooperation and comfort, and offer emotional and physical support during procedures.
  • Take and record vital signs, assist with admission/discharge procedures, and accurately collect, prepare, and label specimens.
  • Complete all required documentation and make post-procedure phone calls.
  • Ensure patient safety by reporting findings and observations to the supervisor or RN in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and follow infection control procedures, supporting established policies, procedures, objectives, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Disinfect and clean scopes, complete sterile processing, and maintain work areas.
  • Maintain an understanding of equipment, order supplies, and ensure adequate stock in procedure rooms, utility rooms, pre-op, and recovery areas.
  • Perform clinic duties as a MA Registered.
  • Attend educational programs, unit meetings, and assigned committees; participate in performance improvement activities and assist in teaching/orientation of new personnel.
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
