The Endoscopic Technician is a member of the nursing team who contributes to the comfort and well-being of the patients by performing specifically assigned tasks and works under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The GI Lab technician manually cleans and disinfects the endoscopes utilized in all the GI Lab and Pulmonary procedures. The GI Lab technician maintains the disinfectant solutions and assists with monitoring the quality of the solutions and the effectiveness of the reprocessing procedure. The GI Lab Technician will assist the physicians during procedures (under the direction of the RN) with biopsies, therapeutics techniques, polypectomies, PEGs, ERCPs, specimen collection, EUS, bleeding therapeutics (clips, banders), etc. Demonstrates the ability to function as an assistant in GI procedures. Provide timely, accurate, and complete documentation in the decontamination room of all QI logs. Promotes a safe “error-free” working environment by consistently performing thorough infection prevention measures. Assumes an active role in orienting, coaching, and mentoring new staff. Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and strong time management skills Effective verbal and written communication skills Computer literate Works effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment Ability to apply principles of evidence-based, analytical thinking and service excellence in practice On-call assignment per department and hospital policy Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and strong time management skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literate
  • Works effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Ability to apply principles of evidence-based, analytical thinking and service excellence in practice
  • On-call assignment per department and hospital policy
  • Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation
  • TB/PPD Surveillance Program
  • Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
  • This job can be physically demanding at times requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time.
  • The team member will need to frequently assist lifting patients and heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment, work independently, making sound decisions, detail oriented, alert, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) licensure in the state of Florida preferred
  • Certifed Endoscopic Tech through Society Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates preferred
