About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician works under the supervision of the manager or designee in maintaining, disinfecting, sterilization and processing of surgical instruments and supplies. This role involves maintaining a clean, orderly work area while handling various types of equipment, instruments, and supplies used during surgical procedures. The technician is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing instrumentation, equipment, and supplies for the OR and other areas as needed. Key duties include keeping accurate quality control records, ensuring adequate inventory, and ordering supplies. The role also involves transporting sterile supplies and equipment, maintaining and caring for equipment, documenting maintenance and repairs, and maintaining department records. Professional growth is encouraged through educational programs, and accurate hand-off communication is essential. The position requires attending department meetings and reviewing missed minutes. This is an allied health role, crucial to Vanderbilt Health's reputation for excellence in supportive, diagnostic, and therapeutic healthcare services.

Requirements

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association
  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician - The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • Less than 1 year of experience
  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, orderly work area while handling various types of equipment, instruments, and supplies used during surgical procedures.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation, equipment and supplies for the OR and other areas as needed.
  • Keeps accurate quality control records regarding Bowie-Dick Tests, Biologics and individual load records.
  • Ensures adequate inventory of necessary supplies for Sterile Processing department and orders as needed.
  • Transports sterile supplies and equipment to other areas of the hospital.
  • Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Documents maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintains department records, reports and files as required.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs.
  • Consistently provides accurate and complete hand-off communication to any healthcare provider according to hospital policy.
  • Attends 80% of all department meetings and required to review and initial all department minutes missed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
