This role involves utilizing the nursing process and collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to provide patient care. The Endocrinology RN administers prescribed medications and treatments, performs assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care, and documents according to standards. A key responsibility is developing, initiating, and executing patient care plans tailored to individual needs, including patient and family instruction. The role also emphasizes utilizing available resources for patient and family education, ensuring it's at an appropriate level of understanding. The RN will act to resolve systems breakdowns, engage in performance improvement activities, and use clinical expertise to support the patient's longitudinal plan of care. Critical thinking regarding patient safety and experience, along with appropriate escalation, is essential. Participation in the professional nursing continuum process, unit/department practice activities, and peer review is expected. The role also involves positively influencing the professional and organizational environments and engaging in personal development for continuous learning and growth, including developing or revising evidence-based practice guidelines. Illinois requires 10 hours of continued education for licensure.
