Our Values Respect | Belonging | Accountability | Transparency Department Endocrinology Physicians Job Summary The Physician Assistant or Nurse practitioner will provide direct clinical care for patients hospitalized on inpatient Medicine services. Works closely under the supervision of our Hospitalists Physicians and will work in close communication with the unit's multidisciplinary team which includes social work, care management, and nursing. Involvement in the educational training of future providers is also an option for interested providers.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Required
  • 1-3 years related clinical experience preferred
  • CNAA-Certified Nursing Administration Advanced - AONL - American Organization for Nursing Leadership Required
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
  • Knowledge of medical principals and procedures.
  • Knowledge of community resources for appropriate procedures.
  • Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients.
  • Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
  • Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies.
  • Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
  • Computer skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient and under the supervision of a physician and in collaboration with other disciplines and standards of care or applying appropriate protocols, make decisions regarding treatment changes. Refers patient to specialized services as needed.
  • Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations.
  • Orders and administers appropriate medications within the limits of the appropriate statutory limitations or refers patient to a caregiver in a specialty area. Initiates, performs or directs other healthcare professionals to perform screenings and diagnostic tests.
  • Completes required documentation legibly, thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records.
  • Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff.
  • May be assigned to perform lead work and/or involvement in clinical coordination, health station management or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol development, management planning, scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practice environment.
  • Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings. Utilizes the principles and practices of effective communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies.
  • Follows established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
