About The Position

At the University of Florida, the Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department (ABE) develops, teaches, and applies engineering to improve and sustain agricultural and biological systems for current and future generations. Ranked among the top programs in the nation, the department transcends disciplinary boundaries to address complex systems from the nano to the global scale, integrating human and social dimensions with natural and managed environments to design, quantify, assess, and manage solutions. The End User Computing Spec II position is responsible for coordinating the purchase, maintenance, and lifecycle management of departmental IT assets, providing IT support for the ABE Department, ensuring IT security and maintaining network resources, and performing diagnostics on hardware and software issues.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience.
  • Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Comfortable entering a computer chassis and familiar with safe computer hardware servicing practices.
  • Familiarity with Windows, MacOS and Linux operating systems.

  • Experience with operating systems Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • Experience with asset lifecycle management and inventory tracking for computers and software.
  • Experience in ticket management and maintaining organized workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the purchase, maintenance and lifecycle management of departmental computers, software, and related IT assets, including inventory tracking and asset management.
  • Install, update, troubleshoot, maintain, and remove operating systems.
  • Install operating systems and other required software on newly purchased or rebuilt departmental computers.
  • Install, update, and remove hardware and software on existing computers.
  • Update and install new programs on the ABE virtual server.
  • Stay informed on current computer hardware standards in order to make appropriate recommendations for computer hardware solutions that satisfy user requirements.
  • Consult with supervisor on issues when installing operating systems or equipment.
  • Resolve IT ticket requests submitted via the UF/IFAS ticket system.
  • Maintain classroom and conference room a/v equipment.
  • Offer videoconferencing on-line/hybrid teaching support.
  • Update and maintain IT service records and SOPs.
  • Upon request, train faculty, graduate students, and staff members on the use of fundamental programs and/or new tech hardware.
  • Provide technical support and evaluation for new technical needs as they arise.
  • Utilize interpersonal communication skills to successfully interact with clients and teammates, maintaining a comfortable working environment and providing quality service.
  • Assess a client’s current knowledge-base and skill level when providing support, and then adapt approaches, responses, and/or instructions accordingly.
  • Analyze business needs and recommends technical requirements, prepares quotes, and configures solutions to meet these needs.
  • Balance current, pending, and new tasks and autonomously prioritize tasks according to most important and urgency.
  • Provide support for online forms and other data related automated processes for the department.
  • Resolve UF Incident Response Team alerts, which range from simple Java updates to addressing simple reports of malware.
  • Maintain a repository of installation files and product codes of UF/departmental software.
  • Manage private folder permissions on ABE servers, network printers, and departmental email distribution lists.
  • Remove malicious software from departmental computers.
  • Serve as ABE representative on appropriate college IT committees.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues on departmental computers.
  • Isolate and fix simple to moderately complex computer operating systems and application software problems.
  • Complete special projects and other duties assigned as needed.
