About The Position

The Enclosure Design Release Engineer (DRE) is responsible for the design, development, and execution of battery enclosure systems surrounding the battery pack, module, and other components at American Battery Solutions (“ABS”). This individual will be responsible for defining, documenting, and designing key mechanical systems and components within a timeframe that supports project milestones and meets or exceeds all requirements. This role requires the individual to work closely with suppliers as well as prototype, production engineering manufacturing, validation, and testing teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of design engineering experience with battery enclosures or components of similar nature.
  • Proficient with conducting tolerance stacks and creating engineering drawings that adhere to ASME Y14.5.
  • Familiar with the Product Design Process (PDP).
  • Possess a strong understanding of Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) reports and results to iterate designs and ensure that structural requirements are evaluated.
  • Adept in data processing and statistical analysis.
  • Proficient in developing and modifying Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA), Design Review Based on Failure Mode (DRBFM), and DVP&Rs.
  • Effective communicator, capable of concisely presenting highly technical information to stakeholders, as well as effectively managing and communicating with suppliers.
  • Educated on common automotive and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and document detailed product requirements in alignment with regulatory standards, customer needs, and internal specifications.
  • Responsible for the design and release of mechanical systems and components that house and or provide structure to key battery components.
  • Create and maintain engineering timelines to ensure that responsible deliverables per the Product Development Process (PDP) are completed in accordance with Project Milestones.
  • Evaluate prospective suppliers and provide key input to the supplier selection process.
  • Develop and maintain enclosure sub-system Design Verification Plan and Reports (DVP&Rs), ensuring integration with and support of overall ABS system DVP&Rs while also providing key contribution to Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEAs).
  • Conduct robust tolerance stacks and apply well established knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) (ASME Y14.5) to engineering drawings while working with suppliers to ensure that all Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is captured.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to responsible components and systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability by leveraging skills with the Eight Disciplines (8D) problem solving process.
  • Maintain and expand professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars and conferences.
  • Lead and manage Product and Process design reviews from initiation through completion.
  • Support prototype system builds by coordinating and ensuring timely availability of all required parts.
  • Adhere to federal and state regulations.

  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
