The EMT responds to dispatch information and drives specially equipped emergency vehicles to designated locations. The role stabilizes ill or injured people by extricating them, providing first aid, and communicating their condition to medical personnel. The EMT uses medical equipment and procedures—including defibrillators, EKG monitors, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR, and other procedures and medications as required—to provide advanced medical care, and recognizes changes in a patient's health related to their condition or treatment. The EMT maintains vehicles, supplies, communications equipment, and medical equipment according to applicable standards. Vehicles and equipment must be cleaned, organized, stocked, and sanitized before each trip, using proper PPE when cleaning or sanitizing spills. The role also operates communications, medical, cleaning, and office equipment and tools, and documents patient care and billing activities completely.
