About The Position

This is a 13-week assignment for an EMT to provide Basic Life Support (BLS) pre-hospital emergency medical services and inter-facility transport. The role involves responding to emergency and non-emergency calls across the Pine Ridge Reservation and surrounding areas. Responsibilities include patient assessment, treatment, and documentation per South Dakota EMT protocols, operating and maintaining emergency transport vehicles, and collaborating with IHS physicians, nursing staff, and EMS team. All required documentation must be completed to IHS, Joint Commission, and CMS standards, adhering to IHS facility policies, HIPAA regulations, and applicable federal and state law.

Requirements

  • Current EMT certification (Basic EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic) — National Registry EMT or REPLICA-state equivalent
  • Minimum 12 months of EMT or paramedic experience within the last 3 years
  • Current BLS/CPR certification
  • Valid state driver's license
  • High school diploma or GED + completion of an EMS course of instruction
  • Ability to obtain South Dakota EMT licensure prior to start date (or currently licensed)
  • Must pass FBI National Criminal History (fingerprint) background check
  • Must not appear on the HHS OIG LEIE exclusions list
  • Must complete IHS credentialing and health requirements (immunizations, TB test, fitness for duty)

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with Indian Health Service, Tribal health facilities, or federally operated healthcare
  • Familiarity with ImageTrend or similar EMS documentation platforms
  • Experience with inter-facility transport and rural/reservation EMS operations
  • Cultural awareness of or sensitivity to Native American communities
