The EMT Trainee provides support in the delivery of emergency medical services while completing an accredited Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training program. Gains foundational knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to obtain EMT certification. The Carilion sponsored EMT course requires travel to Roanoke on a weekly basis for the course (2 days per week) and clinical training (1 day per week). Non-Roanoke based courses may be an option in select locations. This course is part of Carilion's "Grow Our Own" EMT Program. The goal of the program is for you to transition to an EMT-Basic position with Carilion after successfully completing the EMT course. This role is a temporary position within CCPT. Employment in this role is limited to a maximum of 8 months from the start date of the EMT Program. The following qualification must be met during the first four months of employment: Successfully complete the position orientation program to include enrollment in a Virginia Office of EMS (OEMS) Emergency Medical Technician course. An employee who becomes certified by OEMS as an EMT within the eight months of employment in this temporary position may seek to continue employment with CCPT by applying for a CCPT EMT or Communications Specialist I position. Successfully completing the requirements of the temporary position, regardless of any related service commitments, is not a guarantee of hire into an EMT or Communications Specialist role.
