About The Position

HealthPartners Medical Transportation (HPMT) is offering an exciting opportunity for aspiring EMTs through its EMT Trainee position. This role provides on-hands training and education to help individuals obtain their EMT certification from the Minnesota Emergency Services Regulatory Board. The program is designed for individuals interested in the EMS field who do not currently hold an EMT Certificate. The EMT Trainee will assist in maintaining and setting up BLS ambulance and wheelchair van equipment, operate department vehicles, and provide non-emergent medical transportation services. They will also assist in delivering Basic Life Support services under the supervision of an EMT/Lead EMT and document services in the ePCR system. This role is crucial for providing transportation services while training to become a certified EMT. Department-sponsored training will be provided over several months for those not already enrolled in an EMT program, and tuition reimbursement is available for those already in a program upon completion.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Accepted and/or enrolled into an EMT Training program or enrollment in a department-sponsored EMT training course within 6 months of hire.
  • Must remain enrolled as a student in an EMT training program and progress towards graduation as a certified EMT or awaiting MN EMSRB certification upon completion.
  • Current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Must meet MN DOT STS Driver requirements.
  • For the past three years, have not had a driver’s license canceled, revoked or suspended.
  • Have a driving record clear of conviction for driving a motor vehicle without a valid current license for the class of vehicle driven.
  • Have a driving and criminal record clear of convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance under MN statutes or an ordinance in conformity with that section, of alcohol-related driving by commercial vehicle drivers under MN Statutes and of driver’s license revocations under MN Statues.
  • Pass DOT physical examination.
  • Complete MN DOT STS Driver Training within 45 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in the maintenance and setup of BLS ambulance and wheelchair van equipment.
  • Operate department vehicles and provide non-emergent medical transportation services to patients per MN Department of Transportation (DOT) Specialized Transportation Service (STS) authority.
  • Assist in the delivery of Basic Life Support services under the direction of an EMT/Lead EMT in the hospital, on-scene, or in moving ambulances.
  • Document services provided to patients in the approved ePCR system.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
