About The Position

Nebraska Methodist Health System is seeking an EMT/Tech for the Emergency Department. This full-time position involves providing emergency room technical support under the direction of Providers, Nurses, and Paramedics to optimize patient care. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean and safe environment, providing selected patient care services, and performing a wide variety of patient support services. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) training program.
  • Current valid EMT license required.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations with patients, co-workers, physicians, and guests.
  • Respectable technical skills to assure patients safety.
  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions required, acts as a liaison between primary care providers and emergency providers.

Nice To Haves

  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment, as outlined in the Age Specific Criteria.
  • Works with all the members of the department in a team approach in the delivery of patient care.
  • Takes a systems approach to problem solving and process improvement, with an emphasis on patient safety.
  • Awareness of patients' needs prioritizes needs of the patients and works to fulfill those needs, report's findings to the RN/Providers/Paramedics.
  • Orients patients to treatment rooms, call light, informing patient of plan of care, duration and time that they will be back.
  • Assist Emergency providers, nurses and paramedics with procedures including application of orthopedic splints, assist in simple laceration procedures.
  • Performs direct patient care as assigned by an RN, including vital signs, assistance in triage, performs EKG's, point of care testing, wound care, obtains lab specimens and performs duties under licensures.
  • Request and collect necessary supplies and equipment; transports to assigned areas.
  • Properly cleans equipment and rooms in between patients, while stocking necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Covers the front reception area as directed.
