About The Position

This position is responsible for carrying out established policies to protect the life, property, and assets of Mohonk Mountain House and its guests, visitors, and staff. The role involves responding to safety and security needs, performing patrols, reporting hazards, investigating incidents, and administering first aid. The officer will also be responsible for traffic control, enforcing company policies, and maintaining records. This is a seasonal position expected to last until October 2026, with the primary shift being weekends from 07:00 to 15:00.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License and at least 21 years of age, or 20 years of age with at least two years of licensed driving experience.
  • Obtain New York State Security Guard certification within 1 year of hire.
  • NYS Emergency Medical Technician certification.
  • CPR certification.
  • High School Graduate.

Nice To Haves

  • Firefighting experience and/or training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to any needs relating to the safety and security of guests, visitors, or employees.
  • Perform designated rounds and patrols, including day hiker patrols and functions serving alcoholic beverages.
  • Report hazards and make observations on issues affecting safety and security.
  • Receive complaints, investigate, and document incidents according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Communicate via two-way portable radio and earpiece for immediate response to emergency situations.
  • Wear and maintain proper uniform.
  • Maintain records and write detailed reports in accordance with Safety and Security Department Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Provide traffic control and enforce Traffic Rules and Regulations.
  • Adhere to and enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment appropriate to the task.
  • Utilize Mohonk Mountain House 14 Service Steps with Service Strategies.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Make suggestions/recommendations to Security Managers.
  • Follow guidelines in the Department's Standard Operating Procedures, including alcohol service, securing restricted areas, and key control.
  • Provide assistance as directed by the Night Manager, Manager on Duty, and Night Auditor.
  • Promote safe and secure working procedures in a helpful and friendly manner.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and administer first aid to ill and injured individuals on the property and trails.
  • Familiarize self with Mohonk Mountain House’s emergency response procedures, gatehouse procedures, electronic lock system, and electronic safes.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule including days/nights, weekdays/weekends, holidays, and during peak periods.
  • Inspect the work of others by touch, sight, sound, and smell for conformance to prescribed standards.
  • Physically traverse the property (inside and outside) for patrolling, performing rounds, processing/parking cars, and emergency response.
  • Stand in a stationary position for long periods for patrolling.
  • Reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, flex arms, walk up/down stairs/inclines, sit, climb ladders, or stand for up to 5 hours at a time.
  • Use equipment such as portable radios, computer terminals, fire alarm panels, flashlights, key rings, first aid, and firefighting equipment.
  • Safely lift and carry heavy loads of at least 75 pounds for long periods on rocky and steep terrain.
  • Walk up to 7 miles per day.
  • Maneuver carts or dollies with loads up to 300 pounds up/down stairs, elevators, through passageways, or outdoors up to 500 feet.
  • Operate a motor vehicle and perform routine care.
  • Work in stressful situations and under pressure, adapting to changing priorities and acting calmly in emergencies.
  • Analyze problems and develop/implement action plans.
  • Communicate clearly and congenially in English (speak, read, write) with guests, visitors, and employees.
  • Hear verbal instructions, directions, and warnings.
  • Write legibly and orderly to prepare reports that are legal documents.
  • Present a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance according to standards.
  • Demonstrate basic computer proficiency.
