The EMT may perform certain functions in the Emergency Department within their scope of practice, hospital policy, and approval of the Medical Director. Competencies will be maintained in all areas of practice. The EMT will document all procedures and/or medication administration performed in the patient record. The RN directs and plans the care of the patients; therefore, paramedics will communicate and review medication orders with the RN prior to administration. The EMT is also responsible for reassessing the patients after medication administration for hemodynamic responses, side effects, or allergic reactions. The EMT must document all procedures, medications, and observations that they perform in the Emergency Department. The EMT will not take verbal orders from the physician.
