About The Position

This position is responsible for transporting and administering care to patients as authorized by state and local regulations, standing orders, and operating guidelines. The role may be assigned as an EMT to the Transfer Ambulance, partnering with a hospital-provided paramedic for primary patient care, with the EMT providing secondary support and ambulance operation. Depending on experience and operational needs, the position may also be assigned to a 911 ambulance. The core duties involve assessing patient conditions, providing appropriate treatment, collaborating with medical personnel, ensuring patient safety at residences, and meticulously documenting all care and transport information. Maintaining vehicles and equipment for immediate readiness is crucial, as is performing duties according to the employee's licensure level and maintaining that licensure. Safe operation of emergency vehicles, conducting shift inspections, maintaining a clean and neat work environment, and assisting other emergency services are also key responsibilities. At emergency scenes, the role requires following direction from paramedics, shift lieutenants, fire officers, and Incident Command, and the ability to direct emergency service workers in completing medical tasks.

Requirements

Demonstrate experience as an EMS provider.
Completed emergency driving course.
Good standing with the Oregon Health Authority, EMS and Trauma Division, as a licensed EMT-B, EMT-I or AEMT.
Oregon State licensure as a paramedic.
Associate degree in emergency services or related field.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Good standing with the Oregon Human Services Department, EMS and Trauma Division, as a Paramedic/EMT.
Must be 18 years or older.
Must possess and maintain Oregon EMT-B, EMT-I, AEMT, or Paramedic license and must remain in good standing with the Oregon Health Authority – EMS Division.
Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid state driver license without record of suspension or revocation in any State.
Must have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history within the past seven years.
Must be able to read and write the English language.
Must have ability to meet department’s physical fitness standards, psychological exam, and medical physical.
Must be of good moral character and of temperate and industrious habits.
Knowledge of current AHA CPR guidelines, ACLS, PHTLS, and NIMS.
Knowledge of current ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, and NIMS.
Practices skill in operation of equipment and apparatus.
Ability to act effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, other agencies and the general public.

Responsibilities

Obtains an accurate report and determine nature and extent of the illness or injury.
Transports or makes appropriate referral.
Administers appropriate treatment to the patient on arrival at the scene and enroute to the receiving destination.
Receives report prior to transporting the patient.
Collaborates with medical personnel as needed to provide appropriate patient care.
On arrival to receiving destination, reports to personnel assuming the care of the patient all pertinent information for continued continuity of care.
If the destination is a private residence, ensures the patient is safe prior to departure.
Documents accurately and in a timely manner care given to the patient and all required documentation associated with the transport.
Maintains vehicles and equipment in a manner allowing for an immediate transport if necessary following the completion of each run.
Performs all duties associated with the employee's level of licensure.
Must be proficient in the skills and procedures according to the level of licensure.
Must maintain same or higher level of EMT licensure as date of hire.
Safely operates assigned emergency vehicles in the course of duties.
Performs required vehicle, equipment, and BLS/ILS drug inspections at the beginning of each shift.
Maintains work areas/properties in a safe, clean and neat manner.
Keeps a neat appearance at work when conditions allow and dresses according to policies.
Assists other emergency services and city departments as requested.
At emergency scenes, follows direction from Paramedic providing patient care, the shift Lieutenant, fire officers and Incident Command.
Capable of directing emergency service workers to provide and complete emergency medical tasks.
