About The Position

BioLife Plasma Services is seeking an EMT-Basic to join their team as a Medical Support Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing lab results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. You will work under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational matters and the Center Physician for medical issues. Familiarity with regulations in the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment is expected. You will also support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned as an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B), Advanced (EMT-A), Intermediate (EMT-I), or Paramedic (EMT-P), Licensed Practical Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN), or Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions according to SOPs.
  • Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing the Center Physician's standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings, medical or technical guidance, and donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER.
  • Provide guidance regarding employee incidents according to EHS.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats.
  • Collect high-quality plasma that becomes life-changing medicine.
  • Provide customer service and maintain quality standards.
