About The Position

The EMT/ Athletic Trainer, reporting to the Athletic Director and through a lens of equity, provides student-athletes an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular activity that will extend the learning occurring in the regular curriculum. This is done by ensuring safe and effective performance through preconditioning, conditioning, and reconditioning treatment.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts licensure as an Athletic Trainer and NATABOC certification.
  • Current CPR/First Aid and AED certification, and experience with ImPACT testing.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel and/or Google Suite sufficient to perform the required duties, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks, including the ability to manage and organize own workload.
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children to effectively problem-solve.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders.
  • Belief in the commitment to increasing personal growth, both academic and social-emotional, to obtain the highest level of achievement for every student.
  • Experience in healthcare, EMT.

Responsibilities

  • Supports student-athletes by focusing on the prevention of athletic injuries, recognition, evaluation, and immediate care of athletic injuries, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries, health care administration, and professional development and responsibility as specified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
  • Provides instruction and workshops as requested for athletes and parents on subjects that may include the care and prevention of athletic injuries, strength and conditioning, and coaches that may include CPR certification and flexibility, strength and conditioning programs for coaches.
  • Provides coverage of practices and daily events according to a schedule created in conjunction with the Athletic Director.
  • Provides coverage for all home contests for all levels and for all away varsity football games and selected post-season games including weekdays, weeknights, and weekends according to a schedule set in conjunction with the Athletic Director.
  • Serves as liaison between physicians, allied health providers, coaches, athletes, and parents while establishing a respectful and professional relationship with them as required.
  • Ensures that all participating students are physically able to do so and that any physician’s instructions are understood and followed.
  • Maintains inventory of athletic training supplies, including medical supplies, with approval by the Athletic Director.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment in the athletic training room, locker rooms, and weight room.
  • Maintains confidential athlete records including accident reports and rehabilitation procedures and provides reports as required to the Athletic Director.
  • Renders emergency care as necessary to athletes until the transfer of medical responsibility is made to a physician or recognized EMS.
  • During the school day, works in conjunction with the school nurse to ensure proper care of athletes.
  • Develops, maintains, and updates Athletic Emergency Plan (with Athletic Director approval of final plan) including ImPACT baseline test for all athletes as required and for all head injuries as well as preventative policies and procedures.
  • Provides water coolers, bottles, cups, and ice for athletic contests.
  • Serves as a consultant to middle school athletic program as requested or required.
