About The Position

Provides medical care including assessment, treatment and stabilization to the ill and injured within the established scope of practice. An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) has certification and licensure as an EMT and provides basic-level life support under the direction of paramedics and AEMT’s.

Requirements

  • A CURRENT EMT LICENSE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION. PLEASE ATTACH A COPY OF YOUR VALID EMT LICENSE IN THE “ATTACHMENTS” SECTION OF YOUR APPLICATION BEFORE SUBMISSION.
  • Knowledge of street systems, addresses and the physical layout of Elmore County
  • Knowledge of rescue and emergency medical equipment
  • Ability to perform technical medical skills with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to understand and effectively deal with emotional and medical needs of patients
  • Ability to maintain a professional and objective approach to the care of ill or injured persons
  • Ability to learn new concepts in rescue techniques, medical skills and in pre-hospital care
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing work daily
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and software programs
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance of rescue and medical equipment
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and orders
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude as a representative of Elmore County
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to safely drive and operate emergency vehicles
  • Ability to work overnight in 24-48-hour schedules with possibility of emergency call-ins on off days
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance to ensure timely and quality emergency response services
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Idaho driver’s license
  • Must possess and maintain Idaho State Licensure as an EMT
  • Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification meeting AHA standards
  • Must be able to obtain within one year of employment: Complete an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC)
  • Must be able to obtain within one year of employment: Certification in Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and/or Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS)
  • Must be able to obtain within one year of employment: Complete a HAZ-MAT awareness or equivalent
  • Must be able to obtain within one year of employment: Complete ICS-100, ICS-200, and ICS-700
  • This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing
  • The incumbent will be issued and must wear Elmore Ambulance Service uniforms while on duty and be responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of both dress and safety uniforms, as well as all issued equipment

Responsibilities

  • Provides efficient and effective medical care to the ill and injured while focusing on safety
  • Operates emergency vehicles and transports patients to appropriate medical facility
  • Maintains communication with necessary parties including dispatch, hospital, police and fire personnel
  • Maintains accurate Patient Care Reports, files and forms
  • Maintains records of vehicles, supplies, training and daily work
  • Cleans and maintains equipment, vehicles and living quarters IAW local, state or federal regulations when required
  • Assists with technical rescues
  • Must attend sufficient continuing education classes, courses and seminars both on and off duty to maintain paramedic certification, as required by the State of Idaho
  • Performs other related functions as assigned
