This position provides BLS (Basic Life Support) patient care, ambulance transportation, and other duties as assigned. The role involves responding to emergency and non-emergency ambulance operations, demonstrating excellent judgment, and ensuring safety and cooperation. The EMT will administer first aid, transport patients, and follow instructions from medical professionals and dispatchers. Responsibilities include monitoring communication equipment, assisting in patient removal from accident scenes, determining the nature and extent of illness or injury, administering prescribed first aid, communicating with medical personnel, assisting admitting personnel, completing documentation, maintaining vehicles and equipment, and assisting professional medical personnel in emergency treatment facilities. The role requires responding to emergency situations, maintaining safe behavior and operating practices, and possessing a thorough working knowledge of EMT standards, local geography, and equipment. The EMT will also perform station duties, maintain crew quarters, and participate in QA/QI evaluative functions for BLS tripsheets. The work schedule may vary, requiring immediate availability for calls during the assigned work period.
