About The Position

The EMS Paramedic Educator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and teaching EMS courses and continuing education programs, ensuring curriculum meets state and national standards. This role involves applying adult learning principles to lectures, facilitating practical experiences, leading hands-on training, and conducting protocol reviews to improve prehospital care. The educator must be committed to clinical excellence and instructional efficacy, fostering an engaging learning environment to prepare students for high performance in the EMS field.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Three (3) years of experience in emergency medical services (EMS), preferably both in field (ambulance and/or fire agency) and in hospital; preferably familiar and connected to Colorado EMS
  • Two years of experience in developing educational programs and instructing students by using adult learning principles and instructional methodologies
  • Knowledge and experience in computer instructional technology and Microsoft Office Professional software
  • Knowledge and experience in medical/trauma terminology, disease conditions, pharmacology, treatment modalities, therapeutic testing and interventions
  • Colorado State Paramedic Certification or National Registry Paramedic Certification (with eligibility for reciprocity)
  • Colorado State Assistant Instructor Course, Colorado State Primary Instructor Course and Course Administration upon hire or within one year of hire/transfer
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Basic Life Support Instructor Certification upon hire or within one (1) year of hire/transfer
  • Advanced Life Support (ACLS) Certification
  • Advanced Life Support Instructor Certification upon hire or within six (6) months of hire/transfer
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor Certification upon hire or within six (6) months hire/transfer

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, coordinate, and conduct innovative EMS training programs using adult learning principles.
  • Present didactic and practical skills material in formal and informal settings, ensuring all content remains evidence-based and aligned with current quality indicators.
  • Enlist, supervise, and evaluate contract instructors while providing them with necessary preparation materials.
  • Coordinate all required educational equipment, supplies, and audiovisual technology, ensuring all resources are operational and effectively utilized.
  • Collect, synthesize, and analyze performance data to drive system-wide improvements.
  • Incorporate continuous quality improvement (CQI) principles to monitor prehospital activities—retrospectively, concurrently, and prospectively—and implement necessary changes to enhance patient care.
  • Assist in the development of annual course schedules and clinical rotations.
  • Maintain accurate training records, including remediation sessions, attendance, and instructor evaluations, while reviewing and updating department policies to ensure program validity.
  • Serve as a primary liaison between EMS agencies and hospital service lines.
  • Mediate interdisciplinary interactions to foster collaboration, reconcile potential conflicts, and educate personnel on shared responsibilities to ensure the best patient outcomes.
  • Act as a knowledgeable and reliable resource for EMS topics at local, state, and national levels.
  • Provide timely customer service follow-ups, perform professional investigations, and assist the EMS Director with physician assessments and strategic educational initiatives.
