About The Position

Gateway Regional Medical Center is seeking an experienced and dedicated EMS Liaison to serve as the primary connection between the hospital, EMS provider agencies, prehospital personnel, community response partners, and organizations involved in emergency medical services. Under the direction of the EMS Medical Director and Emergency Department leadership, the EMS Liaison coordinates EMS System activities while supporting clinical competency, education, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and the overall effectiveness of the EMS System. This position serves as a clinical and educational resource for EMS personnel and hospital staff while fostering strong relationships between Gateway Regional Medical Center and the EMS community. The EMS Liaison will identify opportunities to improve communication, education, patient care, and EMS system performance.

Requirements

  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) or Paramedic license , as applicable to the position.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification .
  • Current ACLS certification .
  • Current PALS certification .
  • EMS Instructor certification within one year of hire, if required.
  • Required NIMS certifications within six months of hire.
  • Additional certifications required by the EMS System or applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical healthcare experience .
  • Previous EMS, prehospital care, emergency care, or emergency management experience preferred.
  • Previous EMS educator or instructor experience preferred.
  • Experience with quality improvement, clinical education, or EMS System coordination preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and external organizations.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and function effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional education in EMS, emergency management, nursing, healthcare administration, education, or a related field.
  • EMS education or instructor experience.
  • Experience with EMS System coordination.
  • Experience in a hospital or acute care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate activities and operations of the EMS System under the direction of the EMS Medical Director.
  • Serve as a primary contact and resource for EMS agencies and prehospital providers.
  • Maintain strong communication with EMS agencies, providers, Emergency Department staff, hospital administration, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate EMS System meetings and communicate new or revised policies, procedures, protocols, and operational information.
  • Coordinate and facilitate EMS education programs, continuing education, skills laboratories, simulation, and competency activities.
  • Coordinate EMS student internships, clinical experiences, ECRN education, and other educational opportunities as applicable.
  • Evaluate EMS personnel competency and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Review EMS reports and participate in EMS quality improvement, run review, and critique activities.
  • Identify trends and opportunities for improvement in EMS performance, documentation, clinical practice, and patient care.
  • Participate in hospital Performance Improvement initiatives and assist with corrective actions.
  • Coordinate or oversee ambulance and equipment checks as required.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable Illinois Department of Public Health EMS rules, regulations, and requirements.
  • Coordinate required certification, licensure, education, and documentation activities for EMS System personnel.
  • Maintain accurate EMS personnel records and submit required information to IDPH as applicable.
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with EMS agencies and prehospital providers.
  • Represent Gateway Regional Medical Center at EMS meetings, educational events, community activities, and other external events.
  • Support hospital emergency management activities, including mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning, drills, exercises, and after-action improvement activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and complete required reports and assignments.
  • Participate in hospital and community activities related to EMS, emergency care, education, and emergency preparedness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the EMS Medical Director or appropriate hospital leadership.
